We use your donations to help fund our philanthropies that focus on helping and "transforming the lives of children and adults through community programs." Our programs are the following:
Operation School Bell Dressings - provides new clothing, hygiene kits, basic needs supplies and books to students referred by educational personnel from 95 schools in eight local school districts. New school clothes dressings are held at Kohl's Department Store in The Colonies of Upland Shopping Center.
AL Bear - distributes teddy bears to local police departments, fire departments and two local hospitals to comfort children in traumatic situations.
Fostering New Beginnings - provides move-in baskets of household items, linens, grocery cards, hygiene kits and cleaning supplies to young adults exiting foster care and transitioning to independent living through our partner, Aspiranet. Through Chaffey College's outreach program, NextUp, former and current foster youth are given basic needs supplies, food gift cards, clothing and more to help support their health, well-being and academic success.
Outreach - is the programs that provides us with a flexible, rapid-response strategy so we can respond to specific community needs that do not fit within currently existing programs and can be addressed on a one-time basis or short-term basis. During the Pandemic, the program was activated to help struggling children and families in the eight school districts we serve by providing them with food and grocery gift cards.
Waste Not - donates gently used unsold clothing, shoes and other items from the Thrift Shop to other 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations for them to distribute to those in need. Thrift Shop unsellable bedding and towels are donated to a local animal shelter and toys are given to Santa Claus, Inc.
WeCare - managed by Assisteens Auxiliary, provides families and children in need, referred by local school personnel, with gifts, food, clothes and supplies during holidays. They also host activities for senior citizens living in the Coy D. Estes Senior Housing in Upland.
HOW CAN I HELP?
You can DONATE under "OTHER" in the donation page for the following needs - donations of any amount are appreciated:
$50 buys 6 bears for AL Bear
$100 provides clothing and supplies for one student (grades TK thru 12) for Operation School Bell
$400 provides a move-in basket of linens, housewares and other needed supplies for youth exiting foster care and transitioning to independent living for Fostering New Beginnings

Fostering New Beginnings (FNB)
- We invited a group of students leaving foster care to help themselves to $125 worth of merchandise from our Thrift Shop. One young lady really wanted a pair of red satin pajamas but they had a rip in the seam. One of our members made a quick repair and the young lady purchased it along with two other pajamas. She shared that she had never owned a pair of pajamas.
- We had a young woman, who also had five siblings in foster care, who was able to secure one of the few apartments supplied by the county. When she arrived to her new apartment, she only had a bed as furniture. She said she was in tears as she did not know how she was going to obtain all the items necessary to outfit her new place. Right at that time, a FNB package arrived at her door with sheets, towels, dishes, utensils, toaster, pots and pans, and other essentials.
Assistance League Bear (AL Bear)
- One young boy arrived at the Emergency Room with his mother after suffering a trauma. Since his mother was even more upset than the child, he gave the AL Bear to her to hold.
Operation School Bell (OSB)
- A letter from a parent: "To Whom it May Concern: The purpose of writing this letter is to inform you of the many and generous benefits that my children receive from the Women's Assistance League. For many years (over 10 years) my children have received new clothing from underwear to complete outfits. They have been provided with gift cards upwards to 175.00 for each of my two children, they have benefited from Operation School Bell and have benefited from an appointment at the AL to be fitted for numerous clothing items (pants, shirts, jeans, and more as well as hygiene items. They have used the clothes not only for everyday wear, but for special events like picture day, awards ceremonies and band performances. Being selected for this amazing opportunity is most appreciated and has greatly helped me due to having such a meager income to be able to provide adequately for my children. When does bidding start?
Bidding will begin on Friday, November 12th promptly at 9:00 a.m. If you have already registered, you can bid as soon as the auction starts. If you haven't registered yet, you can create an account using the Register Now button.
How do I bid?
You can bid on any item with your computer, smartphone or via text message!
You can also have GiveSmart automatically bid for you - up to a designated amount - by selecting the "Auto Bid" tab. Enter your highest bid amount and we'll increase your bid as needed to keep you winning until your amount is reached! You will receive a text notification when you have been outbid at your highest amount entered.
On Your Phone: Click the blue link in our welcome text message (from when you registered) and it will take you to your personal bidding page. Click on an item you would like to bid on. If you do not have the text message, go to the auction's webpage, log in and begin bidding!
Via Text Messages: Text the item number and amount you would like to bid. No dollar signs ($) needed. Example: "102 300" then press send. You placed a $300 bid on item number 102.
How will I know if I'm outbid?
If you are outbid, you will receive a notification email and a text message if you opted in to receive text message notifications. You will know as soon as you are outbid and can immediately go back to your item and bid on it again. This feature is active for every item in the auction.
When does bidding end?
All bidding will end on Sunday, November 13th at 9 p.m. No bids will be accepted after the bidding deadline.
How will I pay for my items?
When the auction closes, you can check out by selecting the "Pay" option at the top of the screen on the website. Our system is secure and will process your payment.
How will I get my items when I win?
When the auction ends, you will be contacted by an Assistance League of the Foothill Communities volunteer between November 18 - 20th to set up a way for you to get your items on a designated date and time and you can contact Mary at (909) 261-3499 to schedule your pickup date and time. Items can be picked up at 8543 Archibald Avenue, Rancho Cucamonga - items will not be shipped. Pickup date will be Saturday November 19th - times will be posted at a later time.
